Recurrent Miscarriage

Recurrent miscarriage is generally defined as three or more pregnancy losses. Couples who has been trying for a pregnancy and have experienced recurrent miscarriage, can find this very distressing.

Many women who suffer from recurrent miscarriage, will go on to have successful pregnancies, without a reason for the earlier miscarriage becoming apparent. On the other hand, some miscarriages may be due to poor blood supply, inflammation or infection, hormone abnormalities, thyroid disease, abnormal Karyotyping, or a variety of other medical causes.

It is said that around 1% of couples will suffer a miscarriage, and recurrent miscarriage can be extremely upsetting and frustrating for both couples and their Obstetricians. Despite the appropriate work up and testing being performed, 50% of those couples will not be given a definitive cause as to why the miscarriage has occurred. Sometimes it just remains a mystery.
